The Shortest Bible Verse
Steve Stanton, City Manager of Largo, Florida, was fired last Tuesday night, not because of any embezzlement, mismanagement or other impropriety in his work. He was fired because of his disclosure that he will have a sex-change operation.There is nothing particularly unusual about public hysteria over gender issues but the following from the "What they're saying" section of the article is a notable reminder of why all people of good will should work for the maintenance of our secular government and the protections afforded by separation of church and state:
Yeah! We all know the reputation that Jesus fellow had for kicking out those despised by society, the downtrodden and the denounced. He was always the first in line picking out the best stone to hurl."Mr. Stanton is not a role model. He's proven that. I think for the sake of our young people today, you need to do what's right, and that's terminate him. ... If Jesus was here tonight, I can guarantee you he'd want him terminated. Make no mistake about it."

Update: Dr. Jillian Todd Weiss, a professor of law and transgender workplace diversity consultant, has a detailed discussion of the legal issues surrounding Stanton's firing. If there is a more despised group more openly discriminated against and more in need of the law's protection than the transgendered, I cannot think of who it might be. Whatever Stanton decides to do about her firing, I wish her well.
