The Republic Is Doomed

Here we are, in the midst of a war that is killing and crippling our young people, draining our army and emptying our national treasury; our financial institutions are crumbling about our ears; record numbers of our citizens, instead of living the good life America always prided itself on providing, are losing their homes and many others have to choose between eating and buying gasoline to go to work.

And what is the cartoon ticket from one of our major parties trying to make a campaign issue? An old saying that even the complaining candidate himself used earlier in the campaign.

But that isn't what dooms us. What spells the end of American democracy is that there isn't a great roar of laughter from the electorate escorting those cardboard candidates off into a well-deserved obscurity.
