While I deplore Ruse’s methods in this case, I have in the past expressed some agreement with his broader point that certain people treat science in general and evolutionary theory in particular as the universal solvent of human moral and philosophical issues. Pat Hayes’ take-home message is well worth repeating:
I have ignored the Michael Ruse / Daniel Dennett flap so far. After all, two philosophers having a hissy fit is not exactly cause for film at 11:00. Sure, Ruse upped the ante by making his email exchange with Dennett public, especially by means of giving it to William Dembski to use for propaganda purposes, but it is still nothing but a little sharp elbow academic jockeying and blatant book promotion. Pat Hayes has a nice summary over at Red State Rabble.

Pat Hayes’ take-home message is well worth repeating:
Let's leave self-righteous certitude to the Christian fundamentalists and wear our doubt -- our skepticism about even our own beliefs -- proudly on our sleeves.,
