Show Me, State!

.
Mike Riddle, a lecturer referred to as an "apologetics speaker" by the web site of Answers in Genesis, is scheduled to make a presentation at a high school in southeast Missouri about "Fascinating Facts About Origins."

The superintendent for the Potosi School District, Randy Davis, says:

I had my science teacher preview the presentation, and I understand that there's nothing in there that will be inappropriate.

Davis also is reported to have asserted that "the presentation that Riddle will give to students is about science and is not the same sermon Riddle has planned at two churches in the community on Sunday." Uh huh.

Americans United for the Separation of Church and State is also skeptical and have sent a letter to the District administrators urging the high school not to hold the assembly with Mr. Riddle as speaker. Richard Katskee, an attorney for AUSCS, wrote in the letter:

The scheduled assembly and classroom presentations cannot lawfully be presented. Allowing them to occur would be a substantial constitutional violation.

In response to the contention of Davis that Riddle’s discussion would only consider atoms, molecules, amino acids and proteins and that Riddle is a former teacher with degrees in math and education, Katskee said: "He doesn't have to use the word 'God' or mention the Bible to push his religious agenda."

This may constitute a new entry of young-Earth creationists into the stealth creationism arena now that ID had its Dover . . . er . . . Waterloo. It is to be hoped that some reasonable account of the talk will be obtained so that we can see if AiG is, well, evolving.
