The article abounds with (presumably unintentional) humor. For example, the murder trial noted above is revealed to have "ended in a hung jury." The judge is described as one of the "most powerful men" in the county. And prosecutor Richard Smothermon said "it will be a relief to everybody to resolve this case."
If I had to guess about the outcome of the charge, I think the judge is going to beat it.
