Heartwarming

Some days I get these terrible headaches ...

It seems to be brought on by smacking my forehead in disbelief, something I've been doing all too much of lately.

First there was the attack of nude statues in Texas art museums, then secular jihads in Ohio and now ... well, just read:

Alton Verm, of Conroe [Texas, of course], objects to the language and content in the book. His 15-year-old daughter Diana, a CCHS sophomore, came to him Sept. 21 with her reservations about reading the book because of its language.

"The book had a bunch of very bad language in it," Diana Verm said. "It shouldn't be in there because it's offending people. ... If they can't find a book that uses clean words, they shouldn't have a book at all."

Naturally, Mr. Verm filed a "Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials," asking the school district to remove the book from the curriculum.

What book, you might ask? Why, Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, of course. What else?

And, just to make it perfect, Mr. Verm added that that he had not read the book.

Ow!
.

Comments:
Aw jeez. I just barfed all over my keyboard.

Oh, c'mon. You're making that up...

(Reads article...)

Oh my.

Erm. Just wondering. But what are the lead levels like in that district?

It makes sense if you're a book-banner to want to ban a book that shows the stupidity behind the notion of burning/banning books.

Oh, wait... he didn't read the book. What a dummy.

OW! My head!
That was truly painful.

If your irony glands can handle it, the request also came during Banned Books Week.

I've heard, but can't verify, of a high school director changing the play after a parent complained about the witchcraft in "The Wizard of Oz". He did "Inherit the Wind" instead.

"If they can't find a book that uses clean words, they shouldn't have a book at all."

And we all know which option he'd prefer....

Check out the other subversive book they banned. . .
