Across the USA

A number of bloggers have been posting this map which, in my case, indicates I've visited 31 states (62%). Can you figure out the cause of the pattern? I'd estimate the odds of doing so as approximately 10 out of 80-95.

Um... I-80, I-5, I-10, I-95?

I-10, 80 and 95 was what I was thinking of (can't remember being on I-5). I've lived in only 2 states, New York and (all too briefly) California. I was married in Florida (traveling there for that and other Florida runs account for most of the East Coast) and for our honeymoon we drove I-10 to her station in the Army at Ft. Ord. After she was discharged, returning to NY accounts for the I-80 trip. A trip up to the Gaspe Peninsula accounted for the East Coast north of New York.

I think I've visited most of the lower 48 states (and all 10 provinces), mostly in the course of summer vacations with my parents, over a span of about 15 years. There's a few I'm not sure of, but I'd have to go through my father's slide collection (several thousand!) to come up with a definitive list.

Heh. Naturally, living in the States, most of our vacations when I was a kid were trips to Canada (Lake Country in Ontario, I think).
