The Fourth

There is a lot of good rhetoric in the Declaration of Independence.

But to me, this is the heart and soul of it:

... deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed ...
The idea that justice flows not from the top down -- from god(s), kings, churches, etc. -- but from the bottom up, is the true genius of the Founders, no matter how much they ... and we ... have failed to live up to the ideal.
.

Comments:
Speaking as a Briton who recently became a naturalized citizen of the United States, I have long felt that the US Constitution is one of its greatest creations and that it was scandalous that Her Majesty's subjects were denied anything remotely equivalent until the European Convention on Human Rights came into force in 1953.

...who recently became a naturalized citizen of the United States ...

Congratulations! Now you can rightfully start running the country down, like the rest of Mercans!
